These two new houses were built in the large garden of a 1950s bungalow. They were designed to sit sensitively amongst the existing foliage of the site. The houses themselves are A rated, with super insulated walls, floors and roofs, triple glazed windows to the north, and double glazed solar control glazed windows to the south. The houses gain huge amounts of heat from sunlight and only require very small amounts of back up heating from the wood burning stove in very cold weather.

The sloping site provided a dramatic background for this house, where the front door is approached over a bridge akin to a cruise ship. The house sits comfortably in the landscape and uses the mix of timber cladding and painted render to divide the volume of what is in essence a very simple structure.

The timber frame shell is complete. The airtightness test on the structure resulted in 0.09ac/h which is well below the 0.60ac/h required for the passivehaus standard.
